The First Folio – Barry Edelstein, Artistic Director of Old Globe & Misty Jones, Director Central Library

The Old Globe and the San Diego Public Library were selected last year to co-host the only stop in California for First Folio! The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare, on tour from the Folger Shakespeare Library, a national traveling exhibition organized by the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.  The First Folio is one of the most important and consequential books every published, and the plays printed in it—the plays that are the lifeblood of The Old Globe—are cornerstones of our language, our worldview, and our very humanity.

Barry Edelstein and Misty Jones will give Rotarians a preview of First Folio! and also talk about the Folio itself: what it is, and why this chance to see it up close is so rare and special.  The treasured volume will be on display free-of-charge to the public at the San Diego Central Library @ Joan Λ Irwin Jacobs Common from June 4 through July 7, 2016.
