Gloria Shepherd McCoy
Gloria Shepherd McCoy was born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, and later graduated with a degree in Chemistry and Laboratory Science at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Her career path has included two startup companies in San Diego, Hybritech, the first biotech company in San Diego and Pyxis, the first automated dispensing system for healthcare medications and supplies. Both companies became public.
Gloria is a Deacon at La Jolla Presbyterian Church, a board member of the Junior League of San Diego, as well as Patrons of the Prado, and she is a member and host for the San Diego Diplomatic Council. She is a competitive marathon runner, having completed over 100 marathons. She also loves to scuba dive, which she does as a world traveler who is the Past President of the International Travelers’ Century Club, for which she is the current San Diego Chapter Coordinator. Her travels have taken her to 220 countries and territories listed by the TCC, including joining members of our Atiak and International Projects committees in Uganda and Kenya last year.
Although she is now retired, she stays very active as an investor, community volunteer, mother, grandmother and friend. Gloria married Charlie McCoy who passed away in 2023. She has two married, adult daughters, and two grandchildren.
