Edgar Takeda

Edgar is a Financial Advisor with Northwestern Mutual.

He was born and raised in San Diego. He is a graduate of Saint Augustine High School where he was a three-sport varsity athlete.  After high school, he went on to the United States Naval Academy, where he graduated in 2013 with a major in Oceanography and Meteorology and a minor in Spanish.

After graduating and receiving a Commission as a Naval Officer into the United States Navy, Edgar received orders to Pensacola, Florida as a Navy Pilot for 2 years. He then transferred into the Surface Warfare Community and moved back to San Diego to be stationed on the USS ANCHORAGE (LPD 23) as the ship’s Training and Administrative Officer.

He says, after many years of having to wear a uniform for school and for the military, he is happy to be able to choose his own clothes as a financial advisor. Edgar has been married to his wife Lauren for 4 years and they have a 2-year-old daughter named Makenna. They are expecting their second child this year.

Brandon is the Founder and Executive Director The David’s Harp Foundation, a local non-profit with a mission to inspire, educate and empower foster, at-risk and homeless youth, as well as those in the juvenile court system.

The David Harp’s Foundation was born out of Brandon’s passion for youth and his love for music which was cultivated at an early age.  As a teenager, he honed his musical craft while attending the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts.

A San Diego Native, Brandon ventured north to San Francisco to attend the University of San Francisco, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in International Business.  He and his wife of 14 years, Eunice.  have two children, Jasmine and Joshua.

This year, David’s Harp Foundation was one of the recipients of Club 33’s Presidential Grants supporting Arts Education. Brandon is the grandson of Club 33 member and Mr. San  Diego  Award recipient Cecil Steppe.

Medicine-Ear Nose Throat

Clara is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Surgery at UCSD.

In her native Germany, she received her MD degree from TU Dresden and completed her ENT specialty training.  She did her internship at Cornell and is now doing research in a very specialized field on the effect of various drugs which induce autophagy and their effect upon a direct micro infusion into the cochlea.

Clara is following in the footsteps of her father who was an active Rotarian in Germany for over 40 years.  Her father, Wolfgang Draf,  was a pioneer in endoscopic intranasal sinus surgery which was termed the “Draf Procedure.”

She is excited to join the efforts of our Mercy Outreach Surgical Team.

Youth Organization-Junior Achievement

Sidd is the President and CEO of Junior Achievement of San Diego County, joining the organization in January 2019.

He was born and raised in Boston.  He graduated from The George Washington University with a BA in Political Science.

Before joining JA, Sid spent the last 11 years working for the YMCA of San Diego.  He worked as their Director of Marketing, then as Development Director, then finally as their the Director of Strategic Partnerships.  He has been immersed in youth development programs throughout central San Diego, including robotics in underserved communities and gang/drug prevention.

Youth Organization-Rhymes With Reason

Jordan is the Chief Education Officer for Rhymes With Reason, an innovative, online platform that teaches vocab and history to youth through current rap music.  He  is also the Senior Director of Programs at Reality Changers and the founder of Harrison Speaks, a motivational and mentorship program for high schools and colleges.

Jordan was born and raised in Chicago, IL.  He holds a bachelor’s in business marketing from SDSU where he was also a member of the SDSU Rotaract.  He is one of the founding members of the San Diego Rotaract.  Jordan recently graduated from Harvard University with a Masters in education.

Jordan decided to go into the non-profit sector, despite having 24 corporate job offers right after graduating from SDSU, because he wanted to “live an impactful life making a difference in the lives of others.”  He has, and continues to, build programs on a local, regional and national level that allow students to thrive regardless of their background or income level.

Carrie Cottriall

Youth Organization-SD Children’s Choir

Carrie is the Executive Director for the San Diego Children’s Choir, a non-profit that provides children with music education and performance opportunities that foster performance development and excellence. It is the oldest and largest choral training program serving children ages four-18 throughout San Diego.

Carrie has spent her entire career in the non-profit sector: from scientific research to wildlife conservation to the arts.

She is originally from Fullerton but has now lived here in San Diego for 30 years.  She is a UCSD grad.

Carrie, her husband Matt, and daughter Julia reside in Mission Hills.

And she says that although, ironically, her maiden name is “Musick” (pronounced “music”), and she is involved with the SD Children’s Choir, she is not musical at all!

Chis is the Vice Chancellor of External Relations at National University System.

He moved to San Diego in 1990 to attend SDSU.  He graduated with a BA in English and a MBA in Marketing.

Since then, Chris has had the opportunity to work at the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Old Globe, and at San Diego State where he was the Executive Director for Corporate and Community Involvement for the Executive MBA program for 8 years.

He said he first heard of Rotary when he attended SDSU as student and was drawn to Rotary’s collective efforts in elevating the region.

Retired-Medicine-Ophthalmology

Glenn retired from medicine after 30 years.  Originally from Wisconsin, he and his family have lived in San Diego for 48 years.

He and his wife Barbara are passionate about supporting and sustaining our public recreational venues, including bike paths, inner city parks, public libraries and local theaters.  They are also champions for quality access to higher education.

Glenn has been active as a science teacher at Normal Heights Elementary school for over 7 years, has been active in the Mission Hills Library Association’s new building planning, and he and Barbara have sponsored minority students through college.

Glenn loves to read, paint, go boating, kayaking, biking and has recently taken on the piano and ukulele.  Cruising and biking the canals and rivers of Europe has been his passion.  This spring he will bicycle the various rural routes in Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.

Shaina is the President and CEO of Susan G. Komen San Diego.

She was born and raised in New York and has been living in San Diego for the last 13 years.  She  has been with Susan G. Komen San Diego since September 2017.  She was previously with The United Way for 11 years. She graduated from The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a Bachelors in Sociology and a Masters in Public Heath.

Shaina’s community involvement include working with the San Diego HIV/AIDS Funding Collaborative, the San Diego Workforce Partnership, San Diego Grantmakers, Ocean Beach Town Council and JUMA Ventures. She is a LEAD San Diego graduate.

Kelly is the Vice President of University Advancement for Point Loma Nazarene University.  She is a former member of the Rochester Rotary Club in New York.

She holds a bachelor’s degree from Roberts Wesleyan College and a master’s degree in American Government from Regent University.

For 11 years, Kelly worked at Roberts Wesleyan College in where she created the Office of Government, Corporate and Foundation Relations.  She moved here to San Diego in June with her family.  Her husband, Shane, is an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene.
