07 14, 2015 at 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm

LAST DAY TO REGISTER IS THURSDAY, JULY 9!
Join us for a fascinating, behind-the-scenes look at the exciting work under way at the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute. HSWRI is in its 52nd year, and is dedicated to providing effective, innovative solutions to conflicts that arise between human activity and the natural world. Institute scientists apply sophisticated technologies seeking solutions that protect and conserve marine animals while benefiting humans and their reliance on marine resources. The Institute recognizes the critical importance of scientific literacy for competing in the highly technical and competitive global economy providing innovative education programs in marine science for our children and future scientists.

Don Kent, President and CEO, will give an overview of the Institute’s work in San Diego, Carlsbad and Florida. He will share the details of these pursuits including a ground breaking project right off our coast. We will then tour the facilities to get an up-close look at their leading edge work and laboratories. Closed toe shoes required.

Directions from Interstate 5:
Take the SeaWorld Drive exit and head west. Take the Ingraham Street/Mission Bay Drive exit off SeaWorld Drive (it is just past the main entrance to SeaWorld), and see below.

Directions from Interstate 8:

Take the Ingraham Street/Mission Bay Drive exit, turn right or go west, and see below.

From Ingraham Street/Mission Bay Drive:

Move to the left one lane (otherwise you’ll be caught up in a cloverleaf that takes you to Mission Beach). You’ll see a sign overhead for SeaWorld … you can use that as your guide for what lane to be in. Turn right at the first stoplight (Perez Cove Way). Our building (stone facade, with Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute in large letters) is on the corner of Ingraham St. and Perez Cove Way. If there’s no oncoming traffic, you can make a quick left into the second driveway (first is blocked with a barrier pole) immediately after turning right at the stoplight. If there is oncoming traffic, go down to the third driveway and then backtrack. There should be plenty of parking near our building.

The primary purpose of Grotarian events is to bring “Red Badge” and longtime Rotarians together to build new relationships and facilitate greater involvement in Rotary 33 programs.
