Linda LeGerrette: Cesar Chavez Day—Día de César Chávez

03 31, 2022 at 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm

Cesar Chavez Day, or in Spanish: Día de César Chávez, is a U.S. federal commemorative holiday that started in 2014. It celebrates the birth and legacy of the civil rights and labor movement activist Cesar Chavez on March 31 of every year.  In 2000, when the State of California named March 31 Cesar Chavez Day, Carlos and Linda LeGerrette, who had known Cesar Chavez and served within the movement he founded, sought a way to engage young people in the community service that characterized his life. They created the Cesar Chavez Service Clubs, a highly successful leadership development and community service program active in many local schools.
