DESCRIPTION:Dare Mighty Things: Landing a Car on Mars \nHow does a team tackle the task of sending a 2\,000 pound rover on a 350 million mile journey and land it on three nylon ropes within a football field’s length from its intended target? In this talk\, Jordan Evans will share how the “crazy” idea of the skycrane landing came to be and some of the many challenges associated with sending a robotic geologist\, like the Curiosity Rover\, to another planet. \nJordan Evans\, an SDSU Aerospace Engineering Alum\, manages the Mechanical Systems Division of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory\, responsible for leading over a thousand engineers and scientists in the development of advanced robotic systems for the exploration of our universe.
