SUMMARY:Grotarian Event - Junipero Serra Museum
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Grotarians for a Spring evening at the Junipero Serra Museum.  So many of us drive Highway 8 and see this beautiful museum up on the hillside\, and now you will finally be able to explore it! \nThe site is the first permanent European settlement in what is today the State of California. We will tour the museum\, including the exhibits\, and if you dare\, you may walk out onto the top of the iconic tower.  The current exhibition showcases San Diego’s cultural influences from indigenous Kumeyaay to the Spanish\, Mexican and early American settlers. Displays focus on early challenges with natural resources\, trade and development\, and the role archaeology has played in uncovering San Diego’s buried past. \nWe will mingle and have appetizers and wine and beer on the terrace as we enjoy the sweeping views of San Diego and Mission Valley.  Ethan Benegas\,  Professor of Kumeyaay Studies and a Member of the Barona Band of Mission Indians\, will speak to us about  his perspective on the challenges members of the Kumeyaay nation have faced from the time of first European contact to the challenges they continue to face today. Ethan is young\, engaging and his own story is fascinating and inspiring. \nThis event is open to all Rotarians\, their spouses and guests.  We encourage you to bring your spouse and prospective members to enjoy this special evening. \nDate: Tuesday May 23\, 2017\n Time: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.\n Address: 2727 Presidio Drive\n San Diego\, CA 9210\n Cost: $40 per person \nClick here to register \nClick here to see who is attending \nhttp://www.sandiegohistory.org/serra_museum/
