DESCRIPTION:As costs rise for a four-year college education\, institutions are looking at ways to train the next generation of workers for high-skilled\, good-paying jobs without spending six figures to do so. Hear from one of the area’s leaders in this arena discuss the opportunities and benefits to this approach and what it means for San Diego’s economy. \nDr. Ricky Shabazz is an enthusiastic\, student-centered leader with 18+ years of executive experience advancing academic achievement\, educational equity\, and diversity. He is a team builder with an accomplished record of improving access to higher education\, developing collaborative partnerships\, cultivating improved institutional practices\, and promoting innovative solutions and dialogue. His mother was a teenage parent\, and he was the first person in his family to attend college. He is a passionate\, lifelong learner committed to the community college mission to educate a diverse community of learners. \nDr. Shabazz earned an Ed.D. in educational leadership\, a master’s degree in educational administration from California State University\, San Bernardino\, and a bachelor’s degree from UCD. His research expertise is in increasing college access for underrepresented students.
