SUMMARY:Virtual Online Meeting at 12noon-Guest speaker Andrew Goldstein\, Research Scientist/Anti-Bullying Advocate
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Andrew Goldstein is a research scientist and anti-bullying advocate. He attended Dartmouth College in Hanover\, New Hampshire where he earned 3-time All-Ivy League and 2-time NCAA Division 1 All-American honors as a lacrosse goaltender. He came out to his lacrosse team after his sophomore season and made headlines in 2005 as ESPN called him the most accomplished male team-sport athlete in North America to be openly gay while competing. He was later drafted by the Boston Cannons of Major Lacrosse League\, becoming the first openly gay man in the US to be drafted into a professional sports team. In 2013\, he was inducted into the inaugural class of the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame. His advocacy work was featured in the 2015 ESPN SportsCenter Feature “The Courage Game.” \nDr. Goldstein currently teaches and mentors undergraduate and graduate students at UCLA\, and he works with the You Can Play Project to promote wider education and awareness for LGBT equality in sports. \nHe will talk about his own experiences and how the landscape for LGBT athletes has changed in some ways but not in others.   \nIn compliance with the current city and state requirements regarding social distancing\, our Thursday meetings at Liberty Station will be cancelled until further notice. We will continue to communicate with you on any additional changes to our schedule through our weekly emails to you on Mondays and Wednesdays. \nBut please join us for our “virtual” Thursday meetings online via Zoom at 12noon. Look for details and login information each week in our Wednesday email. \nWe hope you and your loved ones stay healthy and safe. \nPlease contact the Rotary office if you have any questions or concerns. We are looking forward to seeing you again soon. \n
