DESCRIPTION:  \nCesar Chavez Day\, or in Spanish: Día de César Chávez\, is a U.S. federal commemorative holiday that started in 2014. It celebrates the birth and legacy of the civil rights and labor movement activist Cesar Chavez on March 31 of every year.  In 2000\, when the State of California named March 31 Cesar Chavez Day\, Carlos and Linda LeGerrette\, who had known Cesar Chavez and served within the movement he founded\, sought a way to engage young people in the community service that characterized his life. They created the Cesar Chavez Service Clubs\, a highly successful leadership development and community service program active in many local schools.

The most expansive habitat in the Zoo’s 106-year history has transformed the previous space of the old Children’s Zoo with four distinct ecosystems—including Wild Woods\, Rainforest\, Marsh Meadows\, and Desert Dunes—giving explorers of all ages the opportunity to experience the world through wildlife’s perspective. Paige will share with us the vision\, planning\, design\, and completion of these amazing interactive habitats for some of the most incredible wildlife—big and small. \n
