DESCRIPTION:Everyone is welcome to this Grotarian event. \nREGISTRATION CLOSES ON OCTOBER 6 AT MIDNIGHT. \nFriday\, October 10 @  6:30 pm – 9:30 pm  The Tenth Avenue Arts Center – 930 Tenth Avenue\, San Diego\, CA 92101 \n6:30 – Pizza\, Salad\, and Wine at the “Top of the Tenth Sky Deck”\, a truly unique rooftop setting \n8:00 – The world premier of “Scott Joplin’s New Rag” presented by the award-winning and critically acclaimed Mo’olelo Performing Arts Company \nDon’t miss this terrific opportunity to enjoy a great meal\, and the chance to mingle with fellow Rotarians and guests.  We will also hear from Lydia Fort\, the Executive Artistic Director of Mo`olelo\, and then head downstairs at 7:45 to the Theater to enjoy a world premier play written and performed by Robert Barry Fleming. SCOTT JOPLIN’S NEW RAG: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE KING OF RAGTIME WRITERS is a contemporary meditation on Joplin’s historical legacy\, established in the turbulence of the American post-reconstruction era. Spoken word\, hip hop\, and live ragtime music propel this theatrical exploration into the mind and music of this genius who lived during the Gilded Age which only glittered for some.   Who was the man behind the music and what was his enduring influence on popular music?  Did his reach extend to impacting the social and racial politics of his age?  In this world premiere piece\, playwright and solo-performer Robert Barry Fleming examines aspects of Joplin’s life – his inspirations\, struggles\, and dreams – in a multi-dimensional\, deconstructed\, one-man musical event. Mr. Fleming is an award winning director\, actor\, and choreographer.  He is the Director of Artistic Programming at the Arena Stage in Washington D.C.  In addition to numerous film and TV credits\, he has appeared on Broadway\, as well as in regional theaters throughout the United States including the Old Globe\, the Mark Taper Forum and the Guthrie. \nCost is $42 per person \nRegister here \nClick here to see who is registered \nNote: Normally at this time of day\, there is free parking available on the street.  There are also surface lots at 11th and E Street\, 11th and Broadway\, and 11th and F Street.  These pay lots normally charge between $6 and $8 and accept Visa\, MasterCard or exact cash. Dress is casual\, however\, it could get chilly on the roof\, as well as in the theatre.  It is recommended that you bring a jacket or sweater.
