DESCRIPTION:The Grotarian Committee and Club 33 Social Hour Committee are organizing another special holiday celebration at the Timken Museum and you are all invited! \nIn December\, the Timken Museum presents its “Jewels of the Season” holiday ornament display. Over 2\,000 ornaments have been painstakingly handcrafted by San Diegans Florence Hord and Elizabeth Schlappi over the course of 80 years\, drawing influence from the popular Faberge egg. The dazzling ornament installation\, featuring a collectible train on loan from the San Diego Model Railroad Museum\, is designed by San Diego State University graduate students and is fast becoming a San Diego holiday tradition. \nAlso on view is Masterpieces of Italian Drawings from The British Museum. The exhibition is an ambitious first-time-ever collaborative effort among the Timken\, University of San Diego (USD) and The British Museum in London. The entire collection from The British Museum will include 54 drawings and prints\, many of which will be on display at the Timken\, featuring such 16th-century masters as Pamigianino\, Andrea del Sarto and Agostino Carracci and the 18th-century artists Luca Giordano and Domenico Tiepolo. The balance of the drawings will be on display at the USD Galleries. Docents will be available to guide you through these wonderful displays. \nThere will be adult beverages and delicious food\, including a carving station\, mash potato bar\, a holiday sweet station and more. \nThis will be a magical evening full of good cheer and merriment. DESCRIPTION:Stu Segall Productions Tour\nMonday\, April 29 10:30am-2:00pm\n4705 Ruffin Road San Diego 92123\nCost: $25 includes the tour and the food\, all inclusive. \nDescription of event: \nPlease note: This event in on a Monday morning. Although this is unusual for a \nGrotarian event time\, it is to accommodate the studio in their training schedule. \nChildren must be at least 15 years of age to attend. \nTour and observation – approx 1 ½ hours\nLunch to immediately follow-1 hour \nThis very rare opportunity to tour San Diego’s only Hollywood Film Production Studio: Stu Segal Productions\, a 70\,000 sq. foot studio is located on 5 acres in Kearny Mesa.\nIt is the filming location of many television series such as Renegade\, Silk Stockings\, Veronica Mars\, and countless ads documentaries\, and TV specials. \nToday\, the entire facility is dedicated to Strategic Operations\, used for “real life” training for special operations for the military. Currently\, it is a training center for medical students throughout the country\, prior to their being deployed to conflict areas. \nTHIS IS REAL LIFE\, AND THE SIMULATIONS YOU’LL BE SEEING ARE GRAPHIC AND CAN BE GRUESOME AND DISTURBING. We will be seeing real training including an explosion\,\nremoval of the injured\, and emergency surgeries the in the operating room. We will be watching this from an observation platform above. The excitement is unequaled\, and very educational. Stu Segall will be with us as well. \nLunch:\nAttached to the facility is the Studio Diner\, one of San Diego’s best diners. It is done in a true 1950’s style\, and is fun and terrific food. We will be offered a choice of a chicken\, flat iron steak or salmon entrée\, all served with vegetables and their famous brisket chili. Beverages included are soft drinks and lemonade. DESCRIPTION:Club 33 will be again hosting this year’s District Finals on Thursday\, April 25\, at the Liberty Station Conference Center located at 2600 Laning Road\, SD 92106. \nDozens of students\, whose extraordinary commitment to this highly competitive contest since early January\, have been crisscrossing the County competing at numerous Rotary Clubs in quest of making the finals at our event. \nSix amazing students\, from over 15 high schools throughout San Diego County\, will compete in this contest. These students have won several contests along the way\, collecting prize money and recognition. Our event will feature the “best of the best” and we encourage you all to please lock this date in on your calendar. \nClub 33 is very proud to host these outstanding young leaders of tomorrow. Our Club has long led an extraordinary example of developing and presenting the very finest programs for our youth. Please join visiting Rotarians\, and friends and families of contestants throughout our Region as we present The Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Contest Finals. See you there! \nRegistration for non-San Diego Rotary club members is required. Cost of lunch is $33 per person or $5 for no lunch. You can select your meal choice at check-in. Tours of “Prebys” and “Barbey” will immediately follow. \nSCRIPPS IS NO. 1 IN SAN DIEGO!\nEllen Browning Scripps—Scripps’ founding benefactress—fell and broke her hip in 1922\, requiring her to convalesce in La Jolla’s tiny sanitarium. Frustrated by the less than adequate facilities\, she gave money to establish Scripps Memorial Hospital at 464 Prospect Street in downtown La Jolla. In 1924\, the hospital opened with an operating room\, a nursery and 44 patient beds. While modest\, it provided La Jolla’s small seaside community with the latest and greatest in medical care and offered its talented medical staff opportunities to innovate in their respective specialties. DESCRIPTION:The Grotarian Committee and the Club 33 Social Hour Committee are organizing a holiday celebration at the Timken Museum and you are all invited! Guests and prospective members are welcome. \nThis will be a very special holiday event. In December\, the Timken Museum in Balboa Park presents its “Jewels of the Season” holiday ornament display. Over 2\,000 ornaments have been painstakingly handcrafted by San Diegans Florence Hord and Elizabeth Schlappi over the course of 80 years\, drawing influence from the popular Faberge egg. The dazzling ornament installation is designed by San Diego State University graduate students and is fast becoming a San Diego holiday tradition. Also on view will be the Timken’s special exhibition\, Rococo Rivals & Revivals. Composed of 12 objects\, paintings\, drawings and prints\, this exhibition will be presenting\, for the first time in Southern California\, a global vision on the different personalities and schools of Rococo. It features a major oil painting The Italian Comedians by Antoine Watteau\, on loan from the National Gallery\, Washington D.C. \nDocents will be available to guide you through these wonderful displays. There will be adult beverages and delicious food\, including a carving station\, mash potato bar\, and plenty of other wonderful treats. This will be a magical evening full of good cheer and merriment. DESCRIPTION:Date: Friday\, November 2\nTime: 7:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.\nEvent: Marine Recruit Graduation\nLocation: Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD)\nCost: Free \nThis will be a full-on Marine Corps experience! Join Rotarians and Grotarians for a Marine Recruit Graduation Ceremony. Graduation marks the end of a Marine’s time in boot camp. It is his final dismissal and the culmination of his Recruit training. The graduation ceremony includes the graduating Marines\, their Drill Instructors and other key training personnel. This is guaranteed to be an inspiring experience for all who attend! \nRotarians should arrive at MCRD soon after 0700 in time to clear security and be seated to attend the Morning Colors. \nCeremony is at 0800. Rotarians will then have a briefing on MCRD in one of the nearby conference rooms. During the brief\, there will be coffee\, water and bagels. \nAt 0930 Rotarians will make their way to the parade deck for the graduation ceremony. \nWE WILL NEED FULL NAMES FOR ALL ROTARIANS\, GROTARIANS & GUESTS\, AS SHOWN ON GOVERNMENT ISSUED ID\, FOR ACCESS TO THIS EVENT 10 DAYS PRIOR TO THE EVENT.  THEREFORE\, PLEASE REGISTER EARLY.  REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE ON OCTOBER 23. \nClick here to register.
