DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT HAS CLOSED – THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO SIGNED UP! \nPlease join the Grotarians as we tour the Women’s Museum of California located in Liberty Station.  The museum is one of only three stand-alone museums of women’s history in the country. It was founded in 1983 as the Women’s History Reclamation Project.  A docent will give us a tour of the permanent exhibits at the museum\, as well as the current exhibit entitled\, “March to Empowerment.”  This exhibit explains the journey towards the American woman’s enfranchisement\, spanning the late 19th century into the early 20th century.  This exhibit will encourage viewers to place themselves within the legacy of a fight against the gendering of civil rights. Each section of the exhibit will provide a story arc created from materials extracted from the generous Alice Park Collection within the Museum archives\, and will expound upon the struggle for fostering political discourse that validated women as public voices with a right to the vote.  After the tour\, we will enjoy adult beverages and heavy appetizers\, while we socialize with fellow Rotarians.  As highlighted in the news\, the Women’s movement is ongoing and strong today.  We invite all Rotarians\, men and women\, to join us for this event. \nMarch 13\, 2018\n5:30-7:30 p.m.\nWomen’s Museum of California\n2730 Historic Decatur Road\, Suite 103\nSan Diego\, CA 92106 \nCost: $20/person \nClick here to see who is coming

We’ll hear all about the current and future infrastructure plans for this vital economic engine. \nBecker\, who has been with Mineta San Jose International Airport since 1995 and its director since 2013\, is the authority’s second President/CEO. \nShe joins the Airport Authority as it adds new nonstop air service\, builds a new Customs and Border Protection facility to accommodate rapid growth of international arrivals\, and plans the replacement of the 50-year-old Terminal 1.  Additionally\, the Authority Board just completed a five-year strategic plan. \n

Jeff has lectured at Princeton University and voted the most popular speaker in the 55-year history of Kansas City’s Prestigious Plaza Club. SUMMARY:The Clearity Foundation-Hope for Ovarian Cancer Patients
DESCRIPTION:Ovarian cancer ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women\, accounting for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system. About half of the women who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer are 63 years or older. Learn how one San Diego organization is helping patients and their physicians make better-informed treatment decisions based on molecular profiling of tumors. \nWho They Are: HOPE\nPatients facing recurrent and refractory ovarian cancer deserve the chance to find the best treatment for their specific cancer. The Clearity Foundation was launched in 2008 to revolutionize ovarian cancer treatment. \nOur team is made up of scientists\, physicians\, and volunteers who are passionate about changing the paradigm for ovarian cancer treatment from a trial-and-error approach to one that individualizes therapy selection based on each patient’s unique tumor molecular profile. \nThe Clearity Foundation helps eligible women obtain and understand the molecular profile of their tumor. Our profiling approach synthesizes data from multiple sources that measure the levels of specific protein biomarkers and detects certain genetic changes that are relevant in ovarian cancer. The resulting Tumor Blueprint provides information that enables physicians to select drugs that match each patient’s individual disease and may therefore be more effective than other options. \nWhat They Do: The Clearity Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization providing patient support services including lab test coordination\, Tumor Blueprint compilation\, interpretation\, and clinical trial identification free of charge. We believe that all patients\, regardless of means\, should have access to the most state-of-the-art care. \nClearity works with three commercial clinical laboratories to conduct tumor profiling and then synthesizes the results in order to provide personalized treatment options for ovarian cancer patients. The foundation has built an extensive clinical and molecular profiling database to interpret the tumor profiles and also enable research dedicated to advancing the treatment of ovarian cancer.

SUMMARY:Grotarian Holiday Party at the Timken Museum
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Grotarians as we celebrate the holidays at the Timken Museum of Art.  We will enjoy fine art\, scrumptious food and drinks\, and delightful company. \nThe Timken Museum of Art is considered one of the finest small museums in the world. Situated in an iconic\, Frank Hope-designed mid-century modern building located on the Plaza de Panama in Balboa Park\, the Museum is home to a permanent collection that features masterworks covering over 700 years of history\, including the only Rembrandt on public display in San Diego. Other featured artists include Jacques-Louis David\, Pieter Bruegel the Elder\, Petrus Christus and John Singleton Copley.  Ranging from 14th-century altarpieces through 18th-century portraits and landscapes to 19th-century still life paintings\, the collection is world-renown. \nIn December of each year\, the Timken presents its “Jewels of the Season” holiday ornament display.  Over 2\,000 ornaments have been painstakingly handcrafted by San Diegans Florence Hord and Elizabeth Schlappi over the course of 80 years\, drawing influence from the popular Faberge egg. The dazzling ornament installation is designed by San Diego State University graduate students and is fast becoming a San Diego holiday tradition. \nAlso on view in December at the Timken:  Monet’s Étretat: Destination & Motif\, featuring two major oil paintings by Claude Monet\, on loan from The Metropolitan Museum of Art\, of the quaint fishing village and the surrounding majestic cliffs of Étretat: The Manneporte (Étretat) and The Manneporte near Étretat\, painted in 1883 and 1886\, respectively. Also on display: The Cliffs at Étretat (1890) by William Henry Lipppincott and Sunset\, Étretat (1892) by George Inness on loan from Terra Foundation of American Art. \nThis will be a magical evening full of good cheer and merriment.  We hope to see you there! \nREGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT WILL CLOSE AT MIDNIGHT ON TUESDAY\, NOV. 28. \nLocation: The Timken Museum of Art in Balboa Park \nTime: 5:30pm to 7:30pm \nCost: $40/person \nRotarians\, guests and spouses are welcome. \nClick here to register \nClick here to see view guests
