SUMMARY:Phil Blair and Jenni Prisk - Brush Up Your 30-Second Elevator Pitch
DESCRIPTION:You can have two 30 second elevator speeches – one when you are looking for a new job and the other when you are asked “what do you do?” \nThose in our club who have experienced Jenni and Phil’s program know there will be fun and surprises as some of you will get an opportunity to tell all of our Rotarians\, in 30 seconds or less (no more!)\, about your business (or nonprofit) and how we can all help you grow and be even more successful. Practice what you want to tell us…you just might get called on!

SUMMARY:Peter Yarrow
DESCRIPTION:One of history’s greatest musical figures is visiting Club 33 on May 11th.  Peter Yarrow\, from the famous trio Peter\, Paul and Mary will sing to Rotary and introduce a song he wrote for Rotary’s immunization program.  Now a social and political activist\, he will also discuss several of the causes he is very passionate about\, including world peace\, anti-bullying and immunization. \nYarrow’s commitment to political and social causes is largely inextricable from his music career. He has organized\, produced and performed at political and charitable events since the 1960s\, including the 1969 March on Washington\, D.C. and the National Mobilization Committee to End the War. \nIn 2000\, Yarrow founded Operation Respect\, a nonprofit organization that aims to reduce school violence by teaching children tolerance and respect for diversity. The organization developed the “Don’t Laugh at Me” program\, which uses music and video to teach conflict resolution to elementary and middle school students\, and is distributed at no cost to schools. \nIf you are bringing a guest to this program\, please register them on our website no later than Monday\, May 8th.  Click here to register.

SUMMARY:Grotarian Event - Junipero Serra Museum
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Grotarians for a Spring evening at the Junipero Serra Museum.  So many of us drive Highway 8 and see this beautiful museum up on the hillside\, and now you will finally be able to explore it! \nThe site is the first permanent European settlement in what is today the State of California. We will tour the museum\, including the exhibits\, and if you dare\, you may walk out onto the top of the iconic tower.  The current exhibition showcases San Diego’s cultural influences from indigenous Kumeyaay to the Spanish\, Mexican and early American settlers. Displays focus on early challenges with natural resources\, trade and development\, and the role archaeology has played in uncovering San Diego’s buried past. \nWe will mingle and have appetizers and wine and beer on the terrace as we enjoy the sweeping views of San Diego and Mission Valley.  Ethan Benegas\,  Professor of Kumeyaay Studies and a Member of the Barona Band of Mission Indians\, will speak to us about  his perspective on the challenges members of the Kumeyaay nation have faced from the time of first European contact to the challenges they continue to face today. Ethan is young\, engaging and his own story is fascinating and inspiring. \nThis event is open to all Rotarians\, their spouses and guests.  We encourage you to bring your spouse and prospective members to enjoy this special evening. \nDate: Tuesday May 23\, 2017\n Time: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.\n Address: 2727 Presidio Drive\n San Diego\, CA 9210\n Cost: $40 per person \nClick here to register \nClick here to see who is attending \nhttp://www.sandiegohistory.org/serra_museum/
