DESCRIPTION:In 1966\, Hiro was born in Amakusa city’s Kumamoto prefecture. At the age of 13\, he started loosing his\nsight\, becoming totally blind at the age of 16.He later heard a message from his uncle in the heaven.  “You became blind to encourage\npeople who are struggling and cannot find meaning in life. You\, as a totally blind person exploring many\ndifferent things\, can inspire these people.”\nHiro started looking at his blindness from a different perspective: not as a negative\, but as a positive aspect\nof life. He began trying an array of new activities including: the Special Athletes Sports Competition\,\nclimbing Mt. Fuji (the highest mountain in Japan)\, studying abroad at San Francisco Sate University\,\nrunning a full marathon\, and sailing (introduced to him by his wife). \nLearn about his two attempts (one successful) to be the first blind person to sail across the Pacific. \nvoyageofinspiration.com \n

DESCRIPTION:The mission of the San Diego Regional Policy & Innovation Center—or “PIC”—is to unlock the region’s full potential by cultivating partnerships\, conducting research\, and recruiting federal\, state\, and philanthropic funding to the region. PIC tackles complex issues that can only be solved with cross-sector\, multijurisdictional collaborations. They work to forge strong alliances that bring about a more thriving and equitable region. PIC currently has $130m in grants in the development pipeline and is conducting a dozen research projects with partners to inform long-term strategic planning for the region.
